our beautiful StefaniaBaby Stefania is now 2 weeks old.  It was pretty hectic the first little while, but we are all feeling more settled now and life feels normal again:)  It feels like our baby has been with us all the time, and that she is meant to be here.  Breastfeeding was a challenge in the beginning, but its a lot better now, and she is gaining the appropriate amount of weight.  She had lost about 10 percent of her body weight at the hospital so we were very worried.  She was fed some formula at the hospital but ever since she’s been home it’s only been breast milk.  She’s been waking up about 3 times a night for feeding and diaper changing.  Cos has been a great help.  Last night he bottle fed her with my pumped breast milk.  He said that her eyes were wide open and very alert.  She is not falling asleep that easily when I breast feed her anymore and my milk has been coming in a lot more lately so we are all very happy about that.  The only thing that makes us a bit nervous is bath time, but so far so good.

Baby Stefania is born!

Wow, what an incredible 8 days it has been so far.  Our precious baby girl, Stefania, was born on July 15 at 12:24 am weighing in at 7.26 lbs.  I think she has Cos’s eyes and nose and my lips and chin.  She is so wonderful and we love her so much.  As for my labour..I didn’t end up going into labour 12 hours after my water broke, so they had to induce me at the hospital.  After 6 hours of oxytocin through iv, I still wasn’t getting any contractions, so they decided to take me off the hormone and get a good nights sleep so that I can be ready for labour the next morning.  The next morning came around and still nothing.  They decided to put me back onto the oxytocin and increase the dosage a bit, but nothing happened, I was only getting very mild period cramping sensations. This went on for about 14 hours until they decided to really increase the dosage and when they did..boy was I feeling the contractions! By 11:00 pm they had suggested that I try the laughing gas to help with the pain, it made me feel like I was drunk and at a nightclub - which wasn’t a bad thing..lol  My mom, sister, neice and nephew were all in the room with me and I even had Mirella and Remo come in earlier to visit as well as Lucy and Gianni right before they started giving me all the pain meds.  I remember Lucy trying to rub my ankles to promote more labour but I kept insisting on just giving me a foot massage instead…lol  The nurse said that I was very sensitive to the oxytocin and that everytime she lowered it I would feel nothing and when she raised it the contractions would be strong and powerful, and one right after the other. The ob came in and broke my water (little did I know that the body keeps producing amniotic fluid  when you go into labour) and still nothing but niagara falls.. Our baby was trying to move down, but I was only about 3-4 centimetres dilated.. for hours..that was the problem. Then the nurse gave me Demorol and then finally the anaesthesiologist came in to administer the epidural for me..because baby’s heart rate was starting to become regular which meant that she was getting tired of trying to get out. It was C section time and I felt relieved that we would finally have our baby in our arms soon.  They wheeled me into the operating room and gave me more epidural.  Cos came into the operating room shortly after (looking like a doctor), we held eachothers hand, and within 10 minutes our pretty little baby girl was born.  I took one look at her and my heart melted.  I didnt get to hold her until 2 hours later because I had the epidural and had to wait until it wore off and I could get feeling back in my legs again..It was the longest 2 hours of my life!  It was almost 3 am until they wheeled me to the room where Cos and Stefania were waiting for me.  The nurse let me watch her bathe her and taught me how to breastfeed.  It felt so wonderful holding her and kissing her tiny little face.  I remember the nurse saying that she was surprised that I was so awake and alert.  I told her that I was in a state of euphoria.  I felt more complete and I knew that from that day forward thing were going to change..for the better:)

My water broke today!

My water broke this morning at 6am!  I called the locum Dr. for Dr. Wong and he told me to got to the hospital.  He came around an hour later, examined me and told me that it definetely did break.  Now we are back home, its 10am and it’s the waiting game for Cos and I.  Im feeling so many emotions right now, fear, excitement, anticipation, worrisome.  When we were waiting for the dr. to come to the hospital, we actually heard someone pushing and giving birth, then they announced that it was a girl.  I can hardly wait for that moment to come for us.  If I don’t feel any contractions before 6pm tonight, then we will have to go to the hospital and get induced.  If I’m feeling contractions any time that are 3-5 minutes apart and last about 45-50 seconds long, then we will have to go right away.  Well guess this is the last time I will be writing in my blog before I give birth.  Now back to laundry, unloading the dishes from the dishwasher, and resting!  Bye for now!!

busy 10 days..

A lot has happened since I last wrote in my blog.  My sister had a surpise baby shower for me..well kind of a surprise..LOL  she dropped a few hints before I arrived at her house for the party so that I wouldn’t get scared and harm the baby.  The shower was great and I got a lot of cute things for the baby.  The shower was July 2 and guess what happened a week later on July 9?, the day after Cos’s brother’s wedding?…Italy won the soccer world cup!!!  Commercial drive was nuts!!, people started lining up at coffee bars to watch the game way in advance, and the party afterwards was crazy. We watched the game at Cos’s parents house with them and his aunt and uncle from Italy.  Cos and I went down to Commercial Drive 3 times- before the game started, right after they won, and the last time we went that night was with my sister and neice and nephew.  We had a lot of fun honking and going up and down commercial drive with Cos’s truck decorated with flags, balloons and streamers.  It was a very memorable day, close call for Italy and I am so happy that all the Italians can relax now.  5 days left til my due day, my doc comes back in 6..yikes..I met the Doctor that may be delivering my baby if my doctor isn’t here yet.  He looks very young..but oh well, hes only there to catch the baby anyway!

World Cup

Commercial Drive was nuts yesterday because Italy defeated the Ukraine in soccer.  We watched the game at Cos’s parents house and then later on went to the drive to join in the festivities.  There are 6 teams remaining now..Italy, Germany, England, Portugal, Brazil and France.  Italy plays Germany this Tuesday, and I’m looking forward to it.  It would be cool if our baby is born the same year that Italy wins the World Cup!  We will have to buy a Jersey for him or her when its born :)  We also went to our Dr’s appointment yesterday morning and we found out that my doc will be taking 2 weeks vacation and coming back on July 16..our due date!  I told him to be prepared if he gets an emergency call at the airoport…hahaha  There will be another doctor taking over when hes gone..who knows? Will it be early, late or right on time!?, I guess we will find out soon!!on commercial drive
